Activists and organizers said they chose to be in Mississippi instead of Washington to send a message to the people of Mississippi. Tyler Harden, 25, Mississippi state director for Planned Parenthood Southeast, said people from the states represented by the U.S. Appeals Court for the 5th District, which consists of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, have all come to Jackson, to “build a community”.
