Dear citizens,
I would like to personally thank the members of our Commissioners’ Court and our citizens for supporting an increase in salaries for NCSO officials that went into effect October 1st. Law enforcement agencies across the country face many problems and are complicated challenges in going about their day-to-day business.
I can more than assure you that it has become increasingly difficult on the ground to retain qualified officers, and possibly even more difficult to attract new law enforcement officers. One thing is for sure, we must remain competitive on salaries at the NCSO or risk losing our qualified officials or potential recruits to other law enforcement agencies in the area. It is and always has been our wish to be and remain fully staffed so that we can continue to provide the level of service our citizens deserve.
“Thank you” to the members of the Corsicana Freedom Flags Committee for holding a commemoration ceremony for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 in Bunert Park in Corsicana on Saturday, September 11th. I have had the privilege of being a guest speaker with several other community leaders, including my friend, Congressman Jake Ellzey. I appreciate Congressman Ellzey’s dedication and service to our country, as well as all of the participants who helped host the event and those who make a living from honoring and commemorating the victims. We should never forget the terrible events of that day and the thousands of citizens who lost their lives not only on that day but every day since the war on terrorism. God bless them and God bless this United States of America.
Just as a reminder, over 650 new laws went into effect in Texas on September 1st, including the Constitutional Carry Act. Laws and regulations are constantly changing and being added.
This month we congratulate Deputy Joey Palos on successfully completing our patrol training program and wish Deputy Palos the best of luck in his role in the patrol department. We look forward to his serving the citizens of Navarro County.
Thank you Curtis and Lexie from Deagan Trailer Sales in Ennis for helping us make the purchase and delivery of our new portable crushing chute hassle-free. The slide is used to help us work safely with cattle in our facility and to reduce the risk of injury to animals, officers and inmates while we are performing the task. We also appreciate the support from Central Kubota in Corsicana with our board purchase of a Kubota zero turn mower. The mower is used on our county farms, tower sites, and other areas of NCSO operations to ensure they are maintained and serviced.
We were proud to attend and be a small part of Mildred Eagles Nest Daycare Community Helper Day. Captain Cagle and Deputy Jamison were delighted to visit and interact with the children who are our future leaders of tomorrow. The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office won this year’s Red Cross Blood Drive Battle of the Badges for Navarro County. I am proud to see that our officers contribute and help in this potentially life-saving cause.
Starting on Friday October 1st and every Friday in October, we’ll be recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink at the NCSO. We honor those in battle, the survivors, and those affected by the dreaded disease.
As many of you may know, this is very important to me because my wife, Mandy, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. I am proud to say that she has survived for 16 years now.
The Sheriff’s Office had approximately 2,339 emergency calls in September and our dispatch received 2,198 911 calls. Approximately 179 people were arrested and assigned to the Navarro County Justice Center, and the average daily prison population was 213 inmates. Ten detainees were transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and two detainees were transferred to state prisons and SAFP units to serve their sentences. In September we lost three horses, a donkey, and six bulls and dragged them to our farms in County Petty’s Chapel and Angus. We also raised $ 430 in lost property fees.
We accept applications for all departments and currently have positions in the areas of detention, dispatch, patrol duty, court security and criminal investigation. Remember, the posting and detention recruitment age has been lowered to 18, but all other enforcement positions require you to be 21 or older to apply. As before, applications for vacancies will be accepted until the position is filled.

As always, God bless and be sure
