The Thomas J. Dodd Research Center opened in 1995 and the UConn Board of Trustees decided in August to make it the Dodd Center for Human Rights, offering human rights programs such as the Human Rights Institute (HRI) and Dodd Impact.
“UConn recognizes over half a century of public service from US Senators Thomas J. Dodd and Christopher J. Dodd, father and son of Connecticut, and the Dodd family’s commitment to support the growth and development of UConn’s widely recognized human rights academic, research and engagement programs, ”says UConn President Dr. Andrew Agwunobi.
Changes in population lead to upheavals in the Senate districts
“Our work with Dodd Impact is all about: making an impact. Human rights can and should make a difference in communities on and off campus, worldwide, and near where you live, ”said Glenn Mitoma, director of Dodd Impact at UConn and assistant professor of human rights and education.
The Human Rights Institute is said to have the largest human rights program for undergraduate and graduate degrees at a public university in the United States: “We educate and mentor the next generation of human rights leaders,” said Daniel Weiner, vice president of global affairs at UConn and professor of geography.
