JOHNSTOWN – A former Mill Hall resident pleaded guilty in federal court of violating narcotics laws, acting U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman said Monday.
Robert Nyman, 59, of Mill Hall, Pa., Pleaded guilty to Senior District Judge Kim R. Gibson of a lesser offense on Count two and one offense on Count three of the alternate indictments.
In connection with the July 2019 to June 2020 guilty plea, Nyman pledged to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, as well as to commit money laundering.
Judge Gibson scheduled the conviction on March 15, 2022. The law provides for a minimum sentence of 5 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison, a fine of $ 5,000,000, or both. Under federal constitutional guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the offense and the criminal record of the accused, if any.
US Assistant Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon is pursuing this case on behalf of the government.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to the indictment against Nyman. Other agencies involved in this investigation include the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office, Erie County District Attorney, Millcreek Police Department, Erie Bureau of Police, and other local law enforcement agencies.
These charges are the result of an investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations threatening communities across the United States. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-gathering, cross-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.
