I have a feeling that the multitude of breweries that opened in the Milwaukee area in 2016 will be a bigger story in Madison next year as they expand their reach. And if this Cedarburg brewery’s handful of stylish bombers that hit shelves last month are any clue, it’s going to be a big story.
Juice packets previously caused a stir among beer freaks on Milwaukee Metro, and rightly so. Golden, with a slight cloudiness, it contains a light citra hop aroma of pineapple, orange and tangerine with a clear fruitiness that follows in the taste, with hardly any bitterness. A pine resin runs down the finish and builds up throughout the glass. An easy drinker by the taste profile and a moderate alcohol content of 6.3 percent, it’s a must-have, even for those who don’t like IPAs.
But also: Milwaukee’s Good City Brewing begins limited sales of its beer in the Madison market next month with six-packs and kegs of its Mosaic-hopped beer motto APA. It’s a fine beer and I’ll tell you more about it and the brewery very soon, but the beer that first got my attention on Good City was Reward, a big, sweet, warming imperial IPA with juicy fruits that pushes all of my favorite beer buttons.
