The Working Group on Law, Development and Social Responsibility of the Global Forum on Law, Justice and Development gathers partners from academia, civil society, public and private sectors to discuss the challenges for the effective implementation of legal mechanisms for the social responsibility of organizations (i.e. market Government, intergovernmental and non-governmental institutions) and their contribution to sustainable development.
This round table discussion examines how racial corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices address legal and governance challenges to promote equality. Based on initiatives that involve the private sector, guest speakers will examine and analyze practical measures in different legal systems, including in emerging markets (Brazil and South Africa as key examples). The aim is to learn lessons about corporate governance processes and guidelines in order to effectively implement more diverse organizations.
The session will:
- Use practical examples to identify the role of the private sector in promoting racial justice and the impact of these initiatives;
- Explore how corporate initiatives in different countries can be “translated” to different institutional, social and economic frameworks in high, middle and low income countries.
