CHESTERTON – Top Indiana Senate District 4 Democrats will come together later this month to select an individual to finish the remainder of the year in Senator Karen Tallian’s tenure, D-Ogden Dunes.

Tallian, 70, announced last week that she was stepping down from the Senate on November 1 after 16 years at the Statehouse to pursue other personal and professional opportunities.

The Democratic Party has set a caucus on October 21 at 7 p.m. at the United Steelworkers Local 6787 building, 1100 Max Mochal Highway, Chesterton to select Tallian’s successor.

The new Senator is elected by Democratic District committee members who live in the 4th Senate District, which in Porter County includes all of Pine, Jackson, Westchester, Liberty, Portage and the northern half of the Union townships; and New Durham, most of Coolspring, and the lakeside portion of Michigan townships in LaPorte County.

Porter County’s Democratic Central Committee chairman Drew Wagner said he hoped to find a “living and qualified replacement” for Tallian.

Individuals interested in being considered by the district committee members must be at least 25 years of age, a US citizen, a minimum of two years in Indiana, and a minimum of a year in the 4th District.

Fully join Jerry Patrick as he patrols the hallways of Lake Central and Kahler Middle School.

Candidates who wish to fill the position must also submit a CEB-2 candidacy declaration to Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Mike Schmuhl, along with a declaration of economic interest, to the Indiana Senate Secretary at least 72 hours prior to the meeting.
