The Pakistani Supreme Court denied a suspect’s bail request on Saturday, stating that anyone involved in the distribution of child pornography videos on social media does not deserve bail.
“The court of first instance must soon announce the verdict in the proceedings against the suspect,” ordered the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court found child pornography to be a leading cause of child sexual abuse and also a leading cause of havoc in society.
The Supreme Court bank also said it poses a serious threat to the future and morale of children in the country.
“The suspect’s attorney’s argument that no victim has come forward is inadmissible, the court said.
Supreme Court Justice Shafir Ali Akbar Naqvi wrote the decision.
FIA arrested 2 cases of child pornography aid from the US organization
In October the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two people allegedly involved in child pornography.
According to the report, the two suspects were identified using information from a US-based organization that specializes in preventing violent crimes against children.
The information was passed on to Pakistan through Interpol, an international organization that facilitates global police cooperation and the fight against crime.
The suspects, identified as Sultan and Ameen, were allegedly involved in uploading and distributing hundreds of inappropriate videos of women and children on the internet.
Criminalization of child pornography
In 2016, Pakistan first criminalized child pornography, punishing the offense with seven years in prison and a fine of 0.7 million rupees.
The new amendment, titled the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2015, also criminalized child trafficking within the country.
The initiative came after the country was rocked by a major pedophilia scandal in August 2015 when it was revealed that hundreds of pornographic videos were being made by children in the village of Hussain Khanwala in Punjab Province and were being broadcast online.
