Brian Laundrie – update: Friend claims Gabby Petito’s fiancé might have resources to leave US illegally

Watch live as the coroner reports on Gabby Petito’s autopsy

As the search for Brian Laundrie goes into day 30, a longtime friend said it was possible he had the means to leave the United States illegally.

The friend, who had known Mr. Laundrie from a young age, told The Sun that Brian was a good planner who could execute his plans precisely.

“I think he could get the resources together to leave the country, either illegally or under some sort of fake ID,” said the friend.

Meanwhile, the North Port Police reported that they had not found any new evidence of Mr. Laundrie’s whereabouts on the Carlton reservation on Friday. Police and FBI have been searching the 25,000-acre nature reserve where Mr Laundrie reportedly hiked alone since Jan.

Authorities previously said there is a 50 percent chance that Mr Laundrie is still alive.

Can Brian Laundrie be tried in absentia?

Brian Laundrie has been missing for over a month. Searches conducted by both the North Port Police and the FBI have revealed no new clues as to his whereabouts, and a spread of reported sightings across the country has largely proven to be false.

Although Mr. Laundrie was not charged with the death of Gabby Petito, he was named a Person of Interest in the case. But what if he’s never found? Can he be tried in absentia? Can his family be charged with a crime? Graig Graziosi from The Independent looks at all the different possibilities:

Freund claims Brian Laundrie may have the resources to leave the US illegally

A longtime friend of Brian Laundrie’s has said it is possible that he had the means to leave the United States illegally.

The friend, who had known Mr. Laundrie from a young age, told The Sun that Brian was a good planner who could execute his plans precisely.

“I think he could get the resources together to leave the country, either illegally or under some sort of fake ID,” said the friend.

“He’s the kind of person who would be able to drop anything to make sure he wasn’t captured and escaped arrest or prosecution for an apparently pending crime.”

The friend also said that Mr Laundrie had spoken about New Zealand many times and that if he had the means he would likely try to reach the oceanic country.

“I’m sure if he had the time and resources in a few years and he really had to get away from this problem, he would probably end up there,” a friend of Mr. Laundrie told the newspaper.

The battle for a restaurant in Wyoming is key to Petito’s fate, says the FBI behavior analyst

The altercation between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie, which was spotted near the Merry Piglets Tex-Mex restaurant in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in late August, could be key to Ms. Petito’s death, a behavioral analyst said.

Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess, pioneer of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, told Fox News Digital, “The restaurant incident … is the second and most important” of two events that raised red flags before the 22-year-old died.

Nina Celie Angelo, a witness to the incident, said she believed Mr. Laundrie had argued with staff about the bill and described his body language as “aggressive”. At one point Ms. Angelo said that Ms. Petito apologized for his behavior.

“The way she apologizes for his behavior is kind of characteristic and that probably makes him even more angry because he wants to act in a certain way,” said Dr. Burgess.

Dr. Burgess added that the other incident that indicated serious problems in their relationship was the fight between Ms. Petito and Mr. Laundrie, which police were called to on August 12 in Moab, Utah.

Petito case still years away from a cold, says the crime scene investigator

Sheryl McCollum, a crime scene investigator and director of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute, said the Petito case was far from getting cold.

“If this is a cold case … it’s a department by department definition, but generally people accept three to five years with no new evidence, no new evidence, no new nothing (until it gets cold). and that’s far from where we are, ”she told CNN.

“That is not the case here at all. Local departments where they believe there has been a sighting usually have that person on the forefront of their thoughts for years, ”she added.
