Orlando, Florida – US District Judge Paul G. Byron has sentenced Fred Lee White, 41, Titusville, to 13 years federal prison for receiving pictures of child sexual abuse online. White was also ordered to serve a 15-year custody sentence and register as a sex offender.
White pleaded guilty in September 2021.
According to court documents, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested White on May 28, 2020 for exposing himself to a 10-year-old child who lived in his neighborhood. A neighbor later found an unlocked electronic tablet owned by White and reported to law enforcement that the tablet contained several pictures that appeared to show child sexual abuse.
A forensic examination of White’s tablet revealed several videos that White had taken of an application running on the tablet. The app was a social networking service that allows account holders to post live stream broadcasts of material recorded on electronic devices. Other users with accounts could watch the show and send real-time comments and rewards to the broadcaster.
Around 114 video recordings of the app were found on White’s tablet. The videos showed children taking selfie videos of themselves at various stages of undressing while White and other users watched the live broadcast. Some of the videos showed underage girls exposing themselves and sexually abusing themselves in exchange for rewards offered by those like White who watched the shows.
“Every time a predator shares child pornography, a young child is victimized again,” said David Pezzutti, assistant special adviser for HSI Orlando. “Thanks to HSI and our law enforcement partnership with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, he will be held accountable for his crimes.”
This case has been investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations. It was prosecuted by U.S. Assistant Attorney John Gardella.
This is yet another case under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Justice Department initiative launched in May 2006 to tackle the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Under the direction of the U.S. Attorney General’s and the Criminal Investigation Department’s Department of Child Exploitation and Profanity, Project Safe Childhood provides state, state, and local resources to locate, arrest, and prosecute those who sexually exploit, identify and prosecute children to rescue.
