A moving van – and moving helpers – were in the house of US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo on the East Side on Saturday.
The former Rhode Island governor has been dividing time between Washington, DC and Providence since joining US President Joe Biden’s cabinet on March 2.
The house on Morris Avenue where Raimondo lived with her husband and two children is valued by Zillow at $ 1.3 million. They bought the house in 2013 for $ 471,500.

It is currently not publicly on the market.
Raimondo and her family also have a second home in South County.
Raimondo was first elected Rhode Island’s first female governor in 2014 and won a second time in 2018.
“I love Rhode Island and I am ready to continue working with you to bring about the change people need and deserve,” said Raimondo when announcing her re-election offer in May 2018.
Her departure before a full second term saw the rise of the then Lt. Governor Dan McKee is now taking on the role of governor.

Raimondo in the national – and international – spotlight
Recently, Raimondo reportedly took advantage of a “little-known” federal law to avoid “huge tax losses”.
“Members of President Biden’s Cabinet, thanks to a little-known provision of federal law, can pay taxes when they dispose of their assets to avoid conflicts of interest when they enter the civil service,” Fox News reported last week.
“Under Section 2634 of the Federal Election Act, there is a unique provision to mitigate the financial blow of new administrators who suddenly sell assets: certificates of disposal,” they continued.

This week, Raimondo will travel overseas to join Biden and other US government leaders at the US-EU summit in Brussels, Belgium, marking her first official international trip as secretary.
