The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) has joined national partners in calling for Senate Majority Leader Charles “Chuck” Schumer to include a citizenship roadmap for millions of immigrants, including Caribbean nationals.
The US House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better reconciliation package worth $ 1.75 trillion last Friday.
NYIC, a coalition of over 200 immigrant groups in New York, said the House of Representatives spending plan included immigration regulations that would provide temporary and temporary immigration and labor benefits to immigrants who entered the country before 2011, but no roadmap for citizenship.

“This is another blow to the immigrant communities who need and deserve more than the temporary solutions and half-measures offered by the Democrats in the House of Representatives,” said Murad Awawdeh, executive director of NYIC, Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC).
“It is time for Senate Majority Leader Schumer to use his power and keep the promises he and President Biden made to the immigrant communities.
“We cannot afford to wait any longer, and we will not accept the remnants of a workaround as a solution because we know all too well the human costs of postponing a real, permanent, and permanent solution.
“The Senate Majority Leader Schumer has the power to develop a better vision of our country and ensure a real recovery,” said Awawdeh, adding, “It is time that he and the Democratic Group on the majority of the Hear American people who support a road map to citizenship and ensure stability, security and opportunity for all of us who call America home ”.
Last week, NYIC joined several immigrant rights for an 11-mile march to highlight the need for a route to citizenship.
Over the past few months, NYIC has carried out several activities to raise awareness of the situation.
