Hawley calls for AG Garland to resign after he ‘mobilized the FBI to intimidate parents without legal basis’

Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley is calling for Attorney General Merrick Garland to resign after Garland “mobilized the FBI to intimidate illegitimate parents.” Hawley argues that Garland’s actions are “a dangerous abuse of office”.

NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION APOLOGY FOR ‘LANGUAGE’ IN A LETTER EQUAL TO PARENTS WITH ISLANDS TERRORISTS

Hawley’s remarks came shortly after the National School Board Association issued an apology memo to its members Friday night, claiming “there is no justification for some of the language in the letter”. The letter was sent just before Garland issued a memorandum instructing the FBI to lead a task force to handle threats against school officials, including creating a centralized way to report such threats.

“Merrick Garland mobilized the FBI to intimidate illegitimate parents and, as we now know, based it on misinformation he did not verify,” Hawley wrote in a tweet. “It was a dangerous abuse of office that compromised the integrity of the Justice Department and Garlands. He should resign. “

Earlier this month, Hawley grilled Assistant Attorney General Lisa Monaco about the Department of Justice’s handling of the situation, calling the actions “really exceptional”.

“I think parents in this country will be stunned when they learn – stunned – that when they show up to a local school board meeting where they have the right to vote and you try to intimidate them, you are trying to silence you are trying To intervene in their rights as parents and, yes, as voters, “Hawley said at the time.” That is wrong. This is dangerous. And I can’t believe a United States attorney general would engage in that kind of behavior. “

In its original letter to the Biden administration, the NSBA claimed that some rhetorical arguments between school authorities and parents could amount to domestic terrorism.

Several education groups, state school boards, and members of the US Civil Rights Commission have criticized the government for issuing the memo.

In a letter to Garland, half of the eight members of the Civil Rights Commission asked for “specific examples” of “harassment, intimidation and threats of violence,” which Garland cited as evidence of the need for federal intervention in school parent protests.

“Will the AG turn back?” asked Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, in a tweet Friday when he responded to the new NSBA letter.
