Palo Alto – September 14, 2021 – Cooley has again received the Mansfield Rule certification from Diversity Lab after completing the rigorous 12-month Mansfield 4.0 certification program. Cooley earned certification for the fourth consecutive year and was also awarded Mansfield Certification Plus status, suggesting the firm has successfully achieved at least 30% of attorneys with historically underrepresented backgrounds in a remarkable number of its current executive positions.

Mansfield Rule Certification measures whether law firms approve of at least 30% women, underrepresented ethnic / ethnic groups, LGBTQ + attorneys, and attorneys with disabilities for leadership and governance roles, investor promotions, formal client pitch opportunities, and senior side positions. Firms participating in the program have shown an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and are making significant strides in diversifying the management of law firms.

“We’re excited to celebrate these firms that have worked so tirelessly to implement the Mansfield Rule and create inclusive workplaces where every lawyer has the ability to flourish and the opportunity to lead,” said Natalia Marulanda, Mansfield Rule Director at Diversity Lab, in a press release. “Despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, Mansfield Rule certified law firms have remained committed to ensuring that the firm’s leadership reflects the rich diversity of the profession. We are extremely proud to work with such a dedicated group of law firms. “

Cooley is committed to maintaining a truly diverse workplace that values and celebrates difference. The company has been widely recognized by leading industry organizations and publications including Diversity Lab, Working Mother, Crain’s New York Business, and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for its efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This year, Law360 recognized Cooley as one of the top law firms known for the most diverse representation within their partnership, while the Women in Law Empowerment Forum recognized Cooley for the 10th consecutive year with the Gold Standard certification for the firm’s commitment to promoting women in the legal industry. Additionally, an article slated for publication by the UC Irvine Law Review in 2022 shows that of the 20 companies that completed the largest public M&A deals between 2014 and 2020, Cooley is the only one with an equal gender ratio in leadership positions in such deals.
