CHILD TAX PERMISSIONS REDUCE CHILD POVERTY
Much has been said about how child tax breaks have reduced child poverty in recent months.
After just one monthly payment, after the directive was passed in March 2021, the extended loans reduced child poverty by 25 percent, according to Vox.
If these higher payments continue, it could lower child poverty even further – by more than 40 percent in a normal year, according to the Urban Institute.
“This is a huge drop in a very short time,” noted Vox.
“According to the Brookings Institution, the child poverty rate fell 26 percent between 2009 and 2019, which means the tax credit was achieved in a month what other policies took a decade.”
