Boris Johnson instructs Jeff Bezos to pay more UK taxes during a face-to-face meeting with the world’s richest man in New York.

He’s excited to see millionaires working on Amazon’s infamous and miserable tax payments and grappling with the harsh working conditions of its employees.

Johnson landed at JFK Airport in New York on Sunday evening on a diplomatic trip to meet U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House.

The Prime Minister has joined the flight on the RAF Voyager with the new Foreign Minister Liz Truss and the President of Cop26, Alok Sharma.

World leaders will meet at the UN General Assembly on Monday to discuss climate change, but the prime minister is taking the time to speak with Bezos.

While on the flight to the US, Johnson was grilled because of Amazon’s low tax payments.

He vowed to challenge the founder of online retailer Bezos over his company’s tax documents.

An official Johnson spokesman said:

“We are committed to an international solution to the tax challenges posed by the digitization of the economy …

An urgent change request came after Amazon’s latest account showed UK sales soared 51% to £ 19 billion last year.

Despite the boom, Amazon’s tax rate is estimated at just 0.37 percent.

Internet giants, including Amazon, have long been criticized for paying low taxes in the UK.

US company sales here are five times that of Next, and Marks and Spencer’s sales are twice that.

Johnson asked Bezos to pay fair taxes on Amazon in the UK and was asked if he would improve workers’ rights and replied “yes, sure”.

“But I also congratulate him on his massive forest initiative. He spends huge sums planting trees all over the world, ”he told reporters from RAF Voyager.

Together with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Prime Minister will convene a conference of heads of state and government and call on them to keep their promises to the poorest in the world.

Downing Street said Britain has already pledged £ 11.6 billion in international climate finance for the next five years.

Johnson and Truss will meet Biden at the White House on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister will promote the recovery of tourism in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The Biden government stuck to the ban as the proportion of Delta variants of the coronavirus skyrocketed.

Truss joined Johnson while on the run as diplomatic ties with France deepened over a new military nuclear-submarine deal between Great Britain, the United States and Australia.
