WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today proposed Eunice C. Lee’s nominations for District Second District Judge; Veronica S. Rossman named US District Tenth District Judge; David G. Estudillo, US District Judge for the Western District of Washington; Lauren J. King, US District Judge for the Western District of Washington; and Tana Lin, US District Judge for the Western District of Washington. In the run-up to the votes, Dick Durbin (D-IL), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Democratic US Senate, urged colleagues to support all five candidates.
Important Durbin quotes:
“MS. Lee has devoted her entire legal career to the civil service. [A] Yale Law School graduate, [she held] two respected trainee positions, one in the Southern District of Ohio and Ohio [one on] the sixth circle. She then joined the New York Office of the Appellate Defender [and] spent more than two decades representing penniless defendants on appeal. In 2019, Ms. Lee joined the Federal Defenders of New York as an assistant federal defender and continued her commitment to representing people fairly in our criminal justice system. “
“MS. Rossman is an exceptionally well-qualified candidate with extensive professional experience in both private practice and as a federal defender … She has served in the Attorney General’s office for Colorado and Wyoming districts since 2010 and is now the Director of the Complaints Office. She has over 100 personally Processed and monitored appeal proceedings in criminal matters that arose from all judicial districts of the 10th district. “
“Since joining the bank, Judge Estudillo has led over 46 jury and banking cases that have resulted in judgments or verdicts in both civil and criminal matters. The spectrum of cases is wide. “
“MS. König is highly qualified. For the past eight years she has served as an appellate judge in the Northwest Intertribal Court System. She has also worked as a litigation attorney in her own practice for over 12 years, handling cases relating to commercial contract disputes, construction disputes and intellectual property disputes to name a few … If approved, Mrs. King would be the first Article III American Indian judge to serve in the Western District of Washington.
“MS. Lin is an accomplished litigation attorney with 30 years of experience in consumer protection, defending penniless defendants, enforcing our country’s anti-discrimination laws, and spending countless hours on pro bono matters … Ms. Lin will bring professional diversity to the western district of Washington. And as the first Asian-American appointment in any of Washington’s judicial districts, she will also bring demographic diversity to the bank. “
