US, EU’s Century of Supremacy Over: MEP – Interview news

The third international conference on “The Future of Peace and Human Rights in West Asia” was hosted online by FODASUN (Foundation of Dialogue and Solidarity of United Nations Public Relations) on Thursday, December 9th, on the occasion of World Human Rights Day. More than twenty speakers from 13 countries attended the conference.

FODASUN is a non-governmental organization dedicated to regional and international peace, dialogue, solidarity and the defense of human rights. The organization organized the annual conference “The Future of Peace and Human Rights in West Asia” with the aim of regional synergy and integration, strengthening the culture of peace and dialogue and providing solutions to the challenges in West Asia.

Addressing the 3rd FODASUN International Conference on Peace Issues in West Asia, Clare Daly, Member of the European Parliament, said: “It’s 2021 and the cause of peacebuilding has never been more important. In my lifetime we saw the end of a Cold War – which everyone agreed was a time of collective madness in international affairs – and recently the attempt by some to start a new one. “

“In the meantime – the roughly 25 years of US hegemony – our world has never known peace. The United States and its allies took advantage of the postponement of the conflict between two superpowers to embark on a series of military adventures, devastating countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, and making the world less secure, “said Daly, who is also a member of the committee on Civil liberties and justice in the European Parliament.

“The collapse of the Soviet system led to a break in social peace as the population of people living under capitalism almost doubled. Twenty years ago, with their official enemy gone and nothing to justify their existence, the industrial war machine in the NATO countries invented an enemy to fight against: the so-called war on terror was an invented conflict, ”she added added.

“I sit on the Security and Defense Committee of the European Parliament and am privy to the daily discussions that take place there, as well as the attitudes and activities of the elected representatives and the European security system. On this basis, the opposite is actually the case: the world seems to me to be heading for a conflict and is presenting the international peace and cooperation movement with extreme challenges. And at the present moment – a crucial moment when international cooperation is needed more than ever – the majority of mainstream politicians in Europe are acting dangerous and irrational, “she said, adding,” The world we are in now is much more. ”dangerously unstable and unpredictable. There aren’t just two superpowers involved. The United States is, of course, the pre-eminent military power in the world, but it has been clear for some time that it has overwhelmed itself and is in decline. Meanwhile, an increase in the economic and strategic power of China is expected for the foreseeable future – a fact which is simply unbearable for the companies in the old colonial countries. “

“The leaders want us to believe that the current conflict is ideological – a struggle, as we are told, between ‘democracy’ and ‘authoritarianism’ – like a heated battle between capitalism and communism. But more like in the period of high imperialism, the defining characteristic of the present period is the intercapitalist competition between the powers. And the political jargon of the time reflects this with terms such as “strategic rivalry” and “competition for the great power”, ”said MEP Daly.

“But that’s not the only difference to the Cold War era. Over the past 40 years, the processes of neoliberal capitalism and globalization have ensured that the world we live in is more interconnected and interdependent than ever before. “

“We have to face the facts. The century of American and European domination is over. This is not the time to burn bridges or build empires. In order to survive the next centuries as a global civilization, cooperation, not competition, will be required, and the work required to build it must be done now, not later, ”said the MEP at the end of her speech, adding that world politics is based on new structures of global peace must be changed.

“In the coming years we will have to experience a reorganization of world politics, away from the old colonial habits and towards new structures of international peace and prosperity. In this new environment, Europe will either withdraw from the declining US influence and join the international community to be part of a peaceful, cooperative future, or it will guarantee its own insignificance and stagnation in an increasingly insecure world. So for me it is time for Europe to grow up, put aside our obsession with superiority and start working together to survive. “
