The world responded today to news that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten have taken two children into their family.

As usual, White House press secretary Jen Psaki has rounded up the news with the best response. “Happy news that we can all use,” she tweeted.

When Chasten and Pete first revealed they were going to be parents last month, many people celebrated the news too.

“Congratulations to you and Chasten,” said Scott Gatz, CEO of Q.Digital, at the time. “Fatherhood is the best my husband and I have experienced. I wish you all the joy that comes with it. “

Now once again congratulations poured in from all over the world for the growing family.

The children Penelope Rose and Joseph August join the Buttigieg family in addition to their two dogs Buddy and Truman.

Psaki wasn’t the only White House official or any other member of the Biden government to congratulate the Buttigiegs.

Senior Advisor on LGBTQ + Rights Reggie Greer, domestic policy advisor Susan Rice, and even the staff at Buttigieg’s workplace, the Department of Transportation, sent congratulations.

After serving as Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete gained national recognition as a presidential candidate. In early 2020, he became the first presidential candidate to win a primary contest in American history.

Many other politicians congratulated him on his recent victory, including our Congressmen such as MPs David Cicilline (D-RI), Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Sharice Davids (D-KS).

Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) also congratulated them on social media.

. @ PeteButtigieg @Chasten, Mazel tov to both of you! As parents of B / G twins (and a younger single), our family wishes you both the joy, happiness (and a bit of chaos!) We have had for 22 years !! 👨👨👧👦

Several LGBTQ advocacy organizations and leaders were also proud of the occasion.

“Penelope and Joseph are perfect,” tweeted PFLAG, the national organization for parents, families and allies of LGBTQ people.

Annise Parker, the president of the LGBTQ Victory Institute, previously pointed out what parenting could mean for the couple – and countless others.

“As parents, you will now put a national spotlight on LGBTQ families, who are often faced with daunting challenges due to outdated guidelines that narrowly define families,” Parker said earlier.

BEAUTIFUL.

Congratulations to @Chasten & @PeteButtigieg on the growth of their loving family with Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg! You two will become incredible and loving fathers from these two. 💞 https://t.co/w4LNbI4YPE

Of course, millions of Americans in all walks of life – from MSNBC journalist Jonathan Capehart to entertainer and glee actress Jane Lynch – participated in the recognition of the momentous event.

“Oh my heart,” exclaimed actor and community representative George Takei.

From a gay dad of twins to two new ones, I send all my love. The offer of free pediatric advice remains.

I’m just old enough to be a little amazed at this by a cabinet secretary. It’s a reminder of how much more needs to be achieved for so many people. But also … 👍 https://t.co/AnZsW98HWf

While many have reason to be excited for Chasten and Pete, some of the best reactions to the news come from other LGBTQ parents and family members too

Several shared pictures of their children or stories about their lack of sleep.

Will Pollock, journalist and blogger behind Cranky Yank, wrote simply: “Single gay father here wishes you everything [the] Happiness in the world.

“The days are long, but the years are short.”

Congratulations to Chasten and Pete of all the twin fathers in the world! Here is a picture from 13 years ago. Would do one then and now, but I’ve got enough trouble with my kids already. pic.twitter.com/rMezvEVuYw
